Hazamir Summer Israel Tour

The next trip is scheduled for 2002

The Zamir Choral Foundations's summer program gives teens the opportunity to experience and combine their own Jewish self-expression and musicality while touring and performing throughout Israel.. While traveling the length and breadth of Israel and discovering her ancient and modern history, participants will also explore their Jewish heritage and Israeli culture through the art of choral singing. The program brings together a diverse group from all denominations of Judaism seeking to share in their spritual heritage through music.
 

Eligibility: Open to all interested high school students aged 14-18 with musical ability and, preferably, some choral singing experience. Audition required.

Fees (preliminary & subject to change): $4,995 - includes round-trip airfare between New York and Tel Aviv; ground transportation in Israel; room and board; programming materials and music.

Activities: Music activities include concert performances throughout Israel and workshops with leading Jewish musicians, conductors, and artists. Touring activities include hiking in the Galil; exploring Masada, Ein Gedi, and the Negev; discovering both the Old and New Cities of Jerusalem; canoeing on the Jordan; experiencing the spirituality of Safed.

Tentative Itinerary Outline:

[Bullet]Week 1: Based in Jerusalem - explore the Old City

[Bullet]Week 2: Explore the Galilee - hike through the mountains of Gilboa; visit ancient and modern sites at Gamla, Katzrin, Tzipori, Tiberias and Safed

[Bullet]Week 3: Visit Tel Chai, Metulla, and Haifa; experience Druze hospitality; canoeing on the Jordan, and life on a kibbutz

[Bullet]Week 4: A desert experience featuring travel through Beersheva, Mitzpe Ramon and Eilat; camel rides, a jeep tour, and Bedouin visit; swimming in the Dead Sea and Ein Gedi; Masada at sunrise

[Bullet]Week 5: Visit Tel Aviv and Yafo; explore ancient Israel through archaeological seminars and participation in an ongoing excavation

[Bullet]Week 6: Visit the Knesset and Supreme Court buildings; Mt. Herzl and Yad Vashem; plant a tree and spend a final Shabbat in the city of peace.

 

Staff: Superb Jewish educators; Israeli tour guide with special expertise in meeting the needs of North American teens; highly trained medical and security personnel; and talented Jewish music professionals.

Additional Program Features: All food is strictly kosher. No group activities are conducted which would violate the traditional observance of Shabbat. Two free weekends are set aside for visiting family and friends. Advanced placement college credit is available for entering high school seniors and college freshmen.

Health and Safety: The health and safety of our participants is the highest concern of the Zamir Choral Foundation. We take every precaution to insure the physical well being and security of program members at all times and operate in strict adherence to the guidelines established by the Israeli Government. Each participant is enrolled in a combined individual and group health plan which provides coverage for service by US trained doctors. Whenever attention is needed, a member of our staff will accompany the participant to the appropriate medical facility.
